What to Expect During Your Senior Portrait Experience

Every senior portrait experience is a little different because every senior is different. Our goal is to create portraits that reflect your personality while making the entire experience enjoyable, relaxed, and thoughtfully planned from beginning to end.

• Choosing Your Portrait Collection — We'll help you compare our Portrait Collections and choose the experience that's right for your senior.


• Planning Your Look — After reserving your portrait session, you'll receive our Individual Portrait Style Guide with practical suggestions for clothing, colors, accessories, and preparing for portrait day.


• Portrait Day — Most seniors arrive just a little uncertain. That's completely normal. We'll help you relax, enjoy yourself, and create portraits that genuinely look like you.


• Outdoor Wardrobe Changes — For outdoor sessions with multiple outfits, our professional pop-up changing tent provides privacy and convenience while making the most of your portrait time.


• Reviewing Portraits Together — During the session, we'll occasionally review portraits on the back of the camera so refinements can be made while there's still time.


• Choosing Your Favorites — After the session, we'll help you select the portraits that best reflect your personality, accomplishments, and style.


• Finished Portraits — Whether you choose gift portraits, wall portraits, albums, or digital images, every selected portrait receives professional hand retouching before it's completed.

How Do I Choose the Right Senior Portrait Collection?

Each High School Senior Portrait Collection offers a different kind of experience.


Our Gift Portrait Collection is a comfortable introduction to professional senior photography, featuring professionally finished gift and tabletop portraits, social media images, and the thoughtful planning and personal attention that define every Picture It Studios portrait experience.


Our Wall Portrait Collection is designed for families who want to enjoy their senior's portraits every day in their home. Each Portrait Package includes professionally mounted wall portraits beginning at 11×14, along with finished gift prints for grandparents, relatives, and friends.


Our Majestic Portrait Collection offers our most distinctive locations, greatest creative flexibility, and most personalized senior portrait experience. These Portrait Packages feature our largest wall artwork, personalized albums, and an experience designed for families wanting something truly exceptional.


Within each Collection, you'll find Portrait Packages offering different locations, portrait time, finished artwork, and creative flexibility.

Where Should My Senior Portraits Be Taken?

Every location tells a different story.


Some seniors are drawn to the dramatic beauty of Red Rocks, the breathtaking scenery of Roxborough, the timeless character of Washington Park, the colorful murals of the RiNo District, or the historic charm of 17 Mile House Farm Park. Others prefer the natural beauty of McCabe Meadows, the evergreens and rock formations of Tallyn's Reach, or the contemporary architecture of Southlands Main Street.


We'll help you choose the location that best reflects your personality, interests, and style so your portraits feel just as authentic years from now as they do today.



How do I schedule my senior portrait session?


Call 📞 (303) 699-2200 or schedule through our booking system. Every reservation is personally confirmed, and we'll guide you through the planning process so you feel prepared and confident.

Is a booking fee required?

A booking fee of between $50 - $100 may be required to reserve your session date. The fee is applied toward your final purchase and allows us to reserve staff, time, and location specifically for your session.


Once your portrait session is confirmed, we'll send you our Individual Portrait Style Guide, making it easy to begin planning your clothing, accessories, and overall look well before portrait day arrives. 



Can My Senior Bring Props to the Portrait Session?

Absolutely. Your senior portraits should reflect who you are.


Sports equipment, musical instruments, uniforms, letter jackets, vehicles, books, or items connected to hobbies and interests can help tell your story and make your portraits even more personal.


Your yearbook photo typically cannot include props, but your additional personal portraits offer much more creative freedom. If you're unsure whether to bring something, just ask. We're always happy to help.



What If My Senior Is Nervous About Having Their Picture Taken?

They're in good company.


Many seniors begin their portrait session wondering if they'll know how to pose or whether they'll feel comfortable in front of the camera.


That's where our experience makes the difference.


We'll guide your senior through natural posing, relaxed expressions, and simple adjustments throughout the session. As confidence grows, most seniors stop thinking about the camera and simply begin enjoying the experience.


Reviewing portraits on-the-back-of-the-camera together during the session also provides reassurance while there's still time to make refinements.


By the end of the session, many seniors tell us it was much easier—and much more fun—than they expected.






What Happens During the Portrait Session?

Every portrait session is personalized to your senior.


We'll photograph a variety of poses, expressions, and backgrounds while making small adjustments along the way. Clothing changes, location changes, and quick reviews on-the-camera are handled naturally so the session never feels rushed.


Our goal is to create a thoughtful variety of portraits your senior and family will enjoy for years to come.


How do outfit changes work during outdoor sessions?

Many senior sessions include multiple outfits. For most outdoor locations, Picture It Studios provides a portable, private pop-up changing tent so outfit changes are comfortable and convenient.


This eliminates the need to search for restrooms or change clothing in the family vehicle.

How Do We Choose Our Favorite Portraits?

After your session we'll help you review your portraits together on desktop PC monitor. There is special Darkroom software we use, which is designed to make "choosing" the best of the best much easier. We'll help you select pictures you believe best captures, and communicates your senior's personality and accomplishments.


Whether you're choosing your yearbook photo, gift portraits for family members, a Wall Portrait for your home, or a digital image collection, we'll make the selection process comfortable, enjoyable, and straightforward.




Are My Portraits Professionally Retouched?

Yes.

Every selected printed portrait receives "professional hand editing/retouching" to minimize temporary skin imperfections, reduce distractions, and present your senior at their very best while still looking completely natural. Our philosophy is simple. You should still look like yourself—just on one of your very best days.


When Will Our Portraits Be Ready?

Most standard portrait orders are completed in approximately one week.


Wall portraits, personalized albums, and specialty products generally require two to three weeks because of the additional craftsmanship involved.


We'll explain the expected delivery schedule when your order is placed so you'll know exactly what to expect.

Professional Portraits are available at our Family Portrait Studio, both In-Studio or Outdoors, or On-Location depending on the selected portrait package.


* Wall Portraits come with a (mounted) backing to e ensure your portrait will stand the test of time.

* A $75 booking-fee required at time of booking any collection at Southshore or beyond

* Ideally, on-location sessions should be booked at least 1 week in advance, but sooner appointments may be available if requested.

* Collections' Contents are customizable

* Collections include all sitting fees.
