The 1882 Portrait and the Idea Behind Majestic
A family portrait made in 1882 hangs in our studio. The portrait includes three generations. Everyone shown is gone today, yet the photograph still connects their family nearly 150 years later.
Just as important, the family preserved a roster identifying the people in the portrait and explaining how they were related. Without that record, many of those faces might eventually have become unknown.
Together, the portrait and roster preserved more than an image. They preserved a family story.
That experience changed how we think about important family portraits and helped shape the Majestic Collection.
